What is happening at The Cornerstone Forum?

Dear friends and supporters of the Cornerstone Forum,

I have been remiss for not explaining my absence from posting on the Cornerstone Forum website over the past while. I apologize for that. I have been dealing with some serious medical problems. I wanted to wait until more was known about the nature of these problems and their likely consequence before letting my Cornerstone Forum friends know of my situation.

I have been in and out of the hospital since July. I now have an oxygen tube in my nose and a feeding tube in my stomach. It’s as comical as it is inconvenient. The medications for my several health issues must be given through my feeding tube several times a day. Fortunately, my dear wife Kathleen is a retired physician as well as being a saint. Without her I can’t image how I would manage.

Among my several medical problems, the one which will eventually be fatal is expected to progress slowly over a number of years. It is an understatement to say that my illness has seriously delayed the writing project on which I have been working since finishing Apocalypse of the Sovereign Self, but the gravity of my health prognosis has had spiritual benefits for which I am truly grateful. It’s possible that what my writing project needed more than its author’s limited skill and ingenuity was a terminal illness on the horizon. However, my vocation, such as it is, compels me to continue the task I have been given as the exigencies of my condition allow. I am blessed to have the prayers and support of my family, my co-workers, and all who appreciate the work of the Cornerstone Forum sustaining me in my efforts.

Please remember me in your prayers as I pray for all of you.

Alex Lessard one of the Cornerstone Forum’s executive co-directors also heads up the Adeodatus project for the renewal of Catholic liberal education – featuring the latest doctor of the Church.

Saint John Henry Newman 38th Doctor of the Church

St. John Henry Newman will soon be recognized for his great teaching mission. His designation as Universal Doctor will recognize not only his eminent learning, but his great sanctity, tireless pastoral care, and critically important contribution to Catholic education and formation.

What makes this moment even more remarkable? Newman carried America in his heart, praying for the United States daily in his office. At this historic moment of his canonization and naming as Doctor of the Church, American Catholics are uniquely positioned to champion his vision of forming young Catholics in both faith and liberal learning.

Adeodatus has secured the stunning exhibit originally created in Oxford for Newman’s canonization—and we’re committed to sharing this treasure with Catholics across America. Our ambitious plan calls for six traveling installations that will reach every major region of our country. We will be sharing more details in the next while.
