Part 3

Now that Summer is fading into Fall we are entering that transitional time. Schools have begun welcoming new and returning students who may still be daydreaming about their summer holidays. Even the hype and online debates about the Odyssey movie are drifting into the rear view mirror. Meanwhile the nervous speculation about the impact of Artificial Intelligence on … well, everything, continues to variously dismay or excite its detractors and proponents.

We hope the two newly available episodes (click on the images above to listen) of Gil Bailie’s Reflections on Homer’s Odyssey will provide our friends with some both diverting and stimulating food for thought during this time. For those following along in a printed textual format these comprise books 6 through 12 of the Odyssey and Gil has largely used the Robert Fitzgerald translation. The remaining five episodes should be finished making the transition from cassette tape to digital streaming audio before the end of the year. Once they are all done we will post them to our ‘Keeping Faith and Breaking Ground’ podcast website.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind those who visit us here how much we depend on those of our friends who continue to find our work worthy of financial support. Keeping the Cornerstone Forum’s resources freely available as well as providing for a modest stipend for our venerable founder and president is becoming more challenging in these times. Our work is not of the kind that keeps up with the latest daily or hourly trends. This newsletter moves with more of a lunar cycle and our Substack posts fitfully show up with the phases of the moon, while Gil Bailie’s writing has a much longer periodicity, most recently due to the health challenges he has been enduring. In the coming weeks we will be presenting our annual Fall Appeal for your consideration and we hope you look favorably on our efforts and respond generously.
